About Us

I would like to share my experience about moving to Thailand. Now having been there, done that. My girl friend and I feel we have gained valuable information and knowledge along the way which enables us to help others who have similar desires and goals in life.

First of all, let me tell you about our dream to retire early from the U.S corporate world. Frankly we grew tired of the usual everyday rat race with no relief insight. I worked for a major aerospace firm as an engineer starting in the late 70’s, and my girl friend working as a nurse. We have been working for so long and thought we deserve some R&R and should be able to harvest the fruits of our labor would like to share my experience about moving to Thailand. First of all, let me tell you about our dream to retire early from the U.S corporate world. Frankly we grew tired of the usual everyday rat race with no relief insight. I worked for a major aerospace firm as an engineer starting in the late 70’s, and my girl friend working as a nurse. Retiring early is tough, and seemed to be just an illusion and a dream that would be difficult to realize. To retire requires a great amount of finances even for just necessities for example; medical cost in the U.S. is no comparison as to the services and prices they have available in Thailand, housing, utilities, food, etc, is always a major concern regarding retirement.

After careful planning and consideration given to all aspects of life, we have decided to retire in Thailand, which happens to be the country where I once lived until a teenager. Tessie is just as American as an apple pie, born in Texas and raised in the South. It was a bold and carefully thought out adventure and a huge change which turned out to be the right move for both of us.

We are now living in a nice home on the lake front furnished with our furniture we shipped to Thailand in a 30 foot ocean freight container. We shipped 3 dogs from the states with us by air cargo; which was quite an eye opener to learn about Thai government’s rules and regulations. But with the help of our friends and business partners in Thailand, everything went smooth sailing, and we are now obtaining retirement visas for a long duration.

Recently, while we were having our visa extended in Bangkok, there was an American couple who wanted to apply for a retirement visa and had been given usual run around. They did not speak Thai “well enough” which as you well know, good communication is a must in a particular situation. It is a big handicap when you have no one to help you with step by step details and you don’t really understand what is required. This couple is now running out of time and will have to leave the country in great disappointment. This eye opening event that played out in front of me is how I came to this decision for my website.

To apply for paper work without proper documentation in Thailand can take up a lot of time, and in one month’s time allowed on the tourist visa could easily go by without getting any business done! There are some things in life you should do yourself and some things you should leave to the professionals. To try to resolve bureaucratic hurdles and follow the paper trails in a foreign country on your own is just not a wise move. Recently visa laws have been changed and enforcement tightened. It used to be quite easy to live here for years; taking a bus out of the country every thirty days and coming right back in. This has become a lot more complicated now and you should not try to do this without consulting experienced professionals. We have the know-how and the expertise, and understand what is needed for your situation.

Now let’s look at several advantages in retiring in Thailand! Let’s consider this;

We have saved quite a good deal of money on medical and dental cost alone, it is much less expensive compared to the U.S. and it doesn’t mean cheap in terms of quality. There are skilled and highly skilled physician in this country.

The key is you need to know someone or at least understand “some Thai” language so you can obtain the best professionals whether it’s doctors, plastic surgeons, general surgeons, dentist etc. All Thailand medical personnel graduated from years of college with extensive experience. Overall, we have estimated the dental cost to be at least 100% lower than the U. S.

This is just the beginning of a good quality life we dreamt about; affordable housing, abundant food and vegetables, and a variety of fresh fruits that will bring you a new awakening of your taste buds. Tessie told me it reminds her of fresh food back home on the farm where she grew up when she was a little girl.

There are plenty of activities and things to do here in Thailand. I don’t even remember the last time we went to the beach in the U.S. but our home here is less than 2 hours from several beaches, which we visit often, and we live only 20 minutes from a huge shopping Mall.
Also, remember this; Thailand has great needs for English speaking natives to teach the most spoken language in the world – the English language, a good job opportunity. Thailand is also considered to be a tourist’s heaven….beautiful beaches, night life, cultural sight seeing, trekking, etc. You can enjoy just being in a western setting with eastern comfort. If you miss your friends overseas, a calling card is readily available and inexpensive so that you can call friends and family back home as often as you like.
